Overcoming a roadblock in the study of electrical cell signaling, scientists have developed biosensor arrays capable of monitoring electrical communication between cells in 3D tissue culture that model the complexity of organs (known as organoids). Such technologies may enable much needed research into the relationship between electrical signals and disease, promoting drug development and treatments for conditions such as arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat).
